On Tuesday, 28th November, during a special ceremony held at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in the United Kingdom, Ambassador Arkady Rzegocki, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, awarded the Medal for Merit to Culture - "Gloria Artis" to the Polish singer Barbara “Basia” Trzetrzelewska.

The artist, who was accompanied by her friends, including partner and Simply Red musician Kevin Robinson and long-time collaborator Danny White, received the honour in recognition of her outstanding contribution to and promotion of Polish culture.

Presenting the award to Ms Trzetrzelewska, Ambassador Rzegocki said: “I would like to express how proud and happy I am to reward our outstanding artist and performer Basia Trzetrzelewska with the Honorary Award - Gloria Artis - the Medal for Merit to Culture.

“We have so much to learn from Basia. Her dedication to fulfilling the goals she has set in her life, while remaining true to herself and to her Polish origins is an example we can all look up to.

“Previously awarded to those who made an outstanding contribution to the protection and promotion of the Polish culture and national heritage, the medal will now be presented to a person who is the embodiment of all of these very values.”

After receiving the award, Ms Trzetrzelewska said: “I am so honoured to receive this medal. I hope that I am a worthy recipient and that my future work will deserve this honour. I would like to thank my team, without whom none of my work would be possible.”

Basia Trzetrzelewska saw her biggest triumphs come in the 1980s and 1990s, and her music was famous around the world. She collaborated with Alibabki, Perfect and Matt Bianco. She has also released numerous solo albums. In 2013, she was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for her outstanding achievements in the artistic work and popularising Polish musical culture.
